  1. Cost Per Copy is King, right? Last time we checked, monarchies weren’t working so well for us. When it comes to office automation, you don’t need a King telling you what to do, you need a General directing your troops. The key difference is strategy. Don’t be distracted by cost per copy wars. Look at the TOTAL cost of ownership, and how sound strategy can address the 90% of print costs that are not even about printing (link to infographic). While you have your calculator out, look at your minimum billing. You might find you’re actually paying up to double of what you thought you’d be, rendering the lower cost per copy invalid anyway.
  2. Hiding in plain sight It’s easy to miss something you’re not looking for - like hidden escalations. While you’re distracted by cost per copy, you may not know to look for a sneaky 15% annual escalation that was included in the contract but not pointed out. Unfortunately the office automation industry is known for less than savoury practices, and hidden escalations are one of them.
  3. Wait, weren’t we going paperless? Cost per copy wars have a way of distracting us from the ‘moonwalking gorilla’ in the room: traditionally paper-based business processes are transitioning into digital. At the moment, a hybrid approach is best for a smooth transition, which brings us back to strategy. Ask yourself, is your current office automation provider haggling over cost per copy, or consulting with you to digitise paper-based processes, cutting time and cost, and automating repetitive tasks?
